Advert analysis

The preferred reading for this text would be to show 50 Cent as a role model to the younger; more impressionable fans by including images they could relate to, however an oppositional  reading for this text would be that people could feel as though the finger prints and the actual celebrity may affect young people in a negative way as the images relate closely to violence, so by a celebrity endorsing the brand, younger people may adopt the attitude that 50 Cent promotes.
Image result for controversial still adverts beach body

The dominant reading for this advert that the creator intended would to encourage people to go out this summer and to aspire to try and lose weight. It wants women to feel good about them selves when they go out in summer, however an oppisitional reading for this text would be that men and women may see this poster as misleading because not everybody has that image in mind when thinking about a beach body so it could make some people uncomfortable with themselves.

Media Homework MEST1- Reading an image

denotation, connotation, colour, pose, framing, composition, size, type of shot, subject matter, setting, lighting.

This image of 50 Cent shows him posing in quite a serious and angry way this could be because it is his own persona and they want him as himself endorsing their brand. The picture of 50 Cent is only covering half of the screen and is placed on the left, there is also a similar sized photo of his prison finger prints on the right of the screen. Reebok could of positioned the images like this because they would want to advertise the street style they're trying to promote. The colour across all of this print advert is black and white (monochrome), this is to mainly attract the audiences focus to what's important, for example the slogan which reads "Where i am from there is no plan B. so take advantage of today because tomorrow is not promised" this slogan of 50 Cent is about himself so it gives a direct mode of address. The clothing that 50 Cent is in is army camouflage, this adds to the seriousness of the whole image as you would usually connote army attire with violence and war and along with the finger print images it adds to the whole dark mood of the print advert. The size of Reebok's brand image is quite small in comparison to all of the other images in this still image. The logo is also positioned in the bottom right corner which is typical for bigger companies to do. The size of the text however is quite unusual as it fills up half of the right side of the page.

This print advert is from Heinz Tomato sauce.
The image is meant to be tomato sauce bottle, however it looks like cut up tomatoes in the shape of their classic bottle. The colour scheme is simple it has various tones of red in the background and a tint of white around the middle to make it look professional. By also using varying colour tones the audience is almost passively directed to the most important parts of the image, for example you may start by looking from the top of the image in the dark red zone and as it gradually changes into a brighter shade of red your eyes would focus on the brands logo in the centre of the image. The print advert then finishes with a new slogan to promote the ketchup, no celebrity endorsement is used which suggests that Heinz is already a well recognised brand and doesn't need huge advertisements in order to promote their product. The brand logo colours remain the same as always. The bottle does take up most of the page but does leave some space for the little dialogue which is spread across the bottom. The company would of wanted to use real tomatoes to show that their product was authentic.

Media Consumption Audit MEST1

Media consumption Audit
Newspapers
I haven’t fully read a newspaper since I was 8 years old. This is because I know of easier ways to catch up with the latest news, for example online news sites such as SKY. If I do occasionally pick up a newspaper I would only tend to read the sports sections at the back because sometimes in the SUN newspaper they tend to have funny headlines. I wouldn't go out and buy a newspaper but if my mum were to buy one for herself then I’d be tempted to pick it up and read. I also have a sky news app on my phone which I check up to 3 times a day, I look though all of the headlines of all of the categories. I most enjoy top stories, UK news and business.
Magazines
I used to always go and buy magazines when I was younger because of the free toy you got inside, I never actually read them, however recently I have been flicking through a few fitness magazines and my mums ones. When I do read magazines I usually flick to the middle as that is where most of the main stories are.
Television
I tend not to watch as much as TV as when I was younger as I'm much busier, I approximately watch 8 hours of television a week.  I will sometimes watch the news on television or if a show I like is on. I mainly watch TV series on my laptop or streaming site Netflix. Show’s that I'm currently watching is the walking dead, Gotham and I'm watching Dexter for the second time, I'm currently on season 5.
Radio
I only listen to the radio when I'm in a car because I stream and have downloaded music I’d rather listen to at home. When I'm in a car I usually listen to Kiss or smooth radio. Most of the top radios only play the top 10 charts on a loop all day so the radio can get quite repetitive and if you want to find a different channel there’s always interference or a bad connection. I’d probably say that I spend about 3 hours a week listening to the radio.
Cinema
I really enjoy going to the cinema and watching the latest films, however going all the time can be quite expensive so I have other ways of watching the latest blockbusters in the comfort of my own home. The last film in the cinema that I saw was Straight Outta Compton,  I think the film was a great betrayal of what life was like for the rappers trying to overcome prejudice views. I would like to go and see American Ultra as I do think Jesse Einsenberg is a great actor. I have been to an independent cinema called Olympic studios a few times and it is the best cinema I have been in, sometimes they show the latest movies and sometimes they show less known ones. I usually go to see a film with my friends or sometimes I just watch them alone on my laptop. I recently streamed the latest Batman trilogy witch I thought was quite good.
Online

I'm always connected to the internet on one device or another, either on my phone, games console or laptop. I use my phone for many hours of the day; I can’t put an exact number of hours on it. I mainly go on sites on my phone and laptop, such as YouTube, Greenford High School and Bungie. On my phone I have installed various social media apps that I use daily such as Twitter and Instagram. I sometimes visit online retailers like Amazon as at the moment I have a 30 day free trial of Amazon prime so I'm making the most of it this month.
